The Digital Age has finally released their first full album titled “Evening : Morning” and it’s fantastic. If this is your first time reading one of our reviews please note that each song is looked at from the perspective of a worship leader. I’m always looking for new music to introduce at my church; here are my thoughts on how this album can bless the body.
Captured – The album begins with a tight vocal harmony that sings about the love of God and quickly picks up with the full band. The chorus sings: “love has come to rescue me, your love has come to set me free, your love is all I need” and is really catchy. If you serve in a congregation that enjoys shouting out, this is a chant that you should work in to your repertoire. There’s tremendous truth about the love of God in the song.
Symphony of Grace – I haven’t heard a worship song with this much drive since some of Lincoln Brewster’s early stuff. The chorus is instantly accessible. Your band will have a fun time with the tight rhythm of the bridge. This song makes for a great opening as your congregation comes together to sing the praises of God.
All the Poor and Powerless – This song originally comes from All Sons and Daughters and The Digital Age did a version of it on their “Rehearsals” album last year. The song is already a staple in many churches and this arrangement serves as a great new way to do a familiar song. You can never go wrong with your congregation singing “hallelujah.” I’ll be introducing this at my church soon. The bridge is powerful and is a great anthem to teach your congregation.
Your Name (We Shout) – Another driving song that gives a great chant in the chorus. Again, if your congregation really digs shouting out, this is a song to introduce. The end of the song is a two-minute long instrumental that would work really well with some scripture on the screens. I plan to do this with my team soon to help build up their musicianship. You definitely need to be careful that your worship team doesn’t turn a long instrumental into a time to show off, help them work through how to play for God.
Overcome – This song starts out simply and ends up big. It has another cool ambient outro.
Through the Night – This song is a great fusion of digital sound and tight harmony. The melody is really catchy and the progression underneath. I wouldn’t recommend doing this song without some solid synth/backing tracks though. Here’s hoping The Digital Age will put out their backing tracks!
Glow – Another well produced song that really shines through all of the synth stuff going on. Your congregation will have something to dance to if you do this one.
Break Every Chain – Written by Will Reagan and popularized by Jesus Culture you would think that this song would be stale but The Digital Age gives it a great treatment. Seriously, I’m really impressed by the fresh perspective they’ve given this familiar tune.
Believe – Simple yet much needed lyrics. Your congregation can sing this song and affirm their belief in the trinity. The bridge speaks of Jesus’s death and resurrection in simple terms. The melody is really great too; I want my congregation to have this song in their heads soon.
God With Us All – Another driving song with really great synth. Seriously, if anyone reads this that can help get their backing tracks available please let me know!
Always You – Simple with great harmony. A love song to Jesus that would work in most any congregation.
Morning Song – A departure from the rest of the songs but a beautiful way to cap the album. Set to the background of birds chirping, it’s difficult to not feel lifted up through the harmonies and the lyrics. Grab a couple of your singers and a guitar and work on this one to share with your congregation.

Just bought it. Anything that includes Bwack has my vote. 🙂

Bwack does add legitimacy to pretty much anything he touches. It’s true.
