Remember that our worship reviews are from the perspective of a week to week worship leader. We recommend each song based on lyrics, melody, style and arrangement.
Take This City // This song opens with a great signature riff. It works well as an opener for the album and would work well at the start of a worship service. There’s a great element of declaration in the chorus which is a plea for God to “take this city.” There’s a heart that needs to be instilled in each of our churches for those in our cities. As worship leaders we need to lead the charge and help our church take lyrics like this seriously. Imagine if we all believed for and prayed the bridge of this “we won’t stop until every heart has heard of your love.” Catchy melody and great lyrics.
Children of the Light // Another opening riff that really catches your attention! The chorus is easy to sing and speaks to the identity we have in Christ. We are the children of the light of God. This song would serve well as an opener which reminds the crowd that we’re chasing after the very heart of God when we worship.
Dry Bones // Pulling from Ezekiel 37, Dry bones is a plea for God to come in and breathe life into us. This is a song that can really minister to people. Never forget that your congregation is carrying heavy burdens with them every week and need to have a sense of God’s ministry to them. I know I need to pray to God regularly to fill me with his spirit. The bridge declares that “we’re alive” as we recognize that God is active in our lives.
Generation Song // The guitar work on this album is great and Generation Song is no exception with a really great groove and sound. A song of surrender and a charge to go out and show the love of God to the world. I’m a big fan of doing songs like this at the close of the service as a commissioning of the people. “Let us show Your love across the earth..” is a lyric that needs to get stuck in our people’s heads.
Here With Us // This song really drives! I’m thinking about doing this in a service soon simply because it is a pretty unique sound for worship. The guitar work is tight so make sure your team is ready for it and be sure to take the time to learn all the nuances in rhythm. There are some definite dubstep influences throughout so make sure your congregation is ready for something like that!
Not Be Moved // “We stand on Your promises, in the midst of the darkness You remain, You have overcome.” There’s great value in knowing that we stand on the solid rock and can know that this world can’t take us down. This is a song of encouragement that reminds us of what Christ has done and overcome for our sakes. If he’s done so many great things, we can boldly stand on his promises.
Living Sacrifice // A song of surrender declaring that we give our lives over to God to do with as He wills. The bridge is really catchy and is really anthemic followed by a great solo.
Love Like a Fire // A simple melody asking God to fill our hearts. A great reminder that we are made to praise Him.
Arise // This song is another fantastic close to a worship service. It begins by declaring how God has worked and moves to praying that God would help the church step our in their faith. Our churches need to recognize that we’re called to be the hands and feet of Christ.
Overall this is a fantastic album! Be sure to check out our interview with Seth and learn all about his church and ministry.
