Tomlin’s new album doesn’t disappoint with some new anthems for the church! Here’s the worship review:
Greater// This truly is a great song for starting a worship service off. It speaks of how much greater God is and how He is above all things. In the verses, it repeats “to God be the glory” after each line, which is great for teaching this song to your congregation. It allows for people to pick it up easily. Musically, there’s a lot going on. The drum groove for it falls towards the back of the beat, which makes it a really easy to get into.
Waterfall// This one makes for a great call to worship. It talks about the love of God being all-surrounding and totally covering us. I wouldn’t recommend doing it without the backing tracks though. There are pretty intricate guitar and keyboard parts so make sure you team has enough time to prepare.
At The Cross (Love Ran Red)// If it was not for the cross there would be no mercy, no grace, and no forgiveness and at the very cross is where we lay down are sins and surrender our lives. That is what this song is about. Worship leaders, this is an easy win for you and your worship team. It is really doable for any church.
Jesus Loves Me// This song is all about the depravity of man and how we try and run from God, but he chases after us and does not give up on us. It has an anthem-like feel to it when goes from the chorus into the bridge. It is song of declaring Jesus’ love for us.
Boundary Line// God’s love is all sufficient and overflowing. If you are looking for a really electro-dance song about the love of God, this is it. It would be great for a youth service or youth camp. If you’re in a more laid back setting or ministry, this might not be the song for you without giving it a different spin. Again, be careful to grab the backing tracks to fill this one out.
Almighty// In this one, Chris Tomlin did an amazing job capturing just how Almighty, Holy, and Sovereign God is. It’s really driven by the acoustic guitar, which makes this song really great for any church, no matter the size of the worship team.
The Roar// This song speaks to how God will always come through for us in our darkest times. It’s a great opener and is pretty easy for a team to pick up.
Fear Not// This one sings of the faithfulness of God. It’s lyrics talk about how we need to put our full trust in God and fear not because He is with us. It features a driving guitar part that varies throughout the whole song.
The Table// Here’s one that has a real gospel feel to it. If you have really soulful guitar or piano player on your team, this is the song for you, no matter the size of your church. It beckons people to come to the table of Lord to receive what God has for them.
Psalm 100// The idea for this song is taken directly from Psalm 100. It is all about the goodness of God and is love enduring forevermore. You really should grab the backing tracks to pull this one off though.
I Will Boast// In the scriptures we are told to not boast in anything except the cross of Jesus Christ. The lyrical content points directly to the cross and the work Jesus did there. At the end of the song, they bring back the melody line of “At The Cross (Love Ran Red)” on piano, which adds a nice touch. It’s simple and easy to catch on to.
Jesus, This Is You// This one sings about all the amazing attributes of Jesus. It features a driving drum part that really builds throughout to make it more of an anthem. The theme will work really well during the Easter season.
