Lincoln Brewster
Oxygen
Release date August 19th, 2014
On August 19, 2014 Lincoln Brewster will release his eagerly awaited new studio album, Oxygen. The album holds everything a Lincoln album should; pop heavy hooks, strong lyrics, tight production, and of course the Lincoln guitar riffs. Fans of Lincoln Brewster will love this album. If you are on the fence or have never listened to much of his music, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. As with all TCC worship reviews, we look at the album from the perspective of a worship leader and how the music can fit into your ministry. Here is a brief overview of the songs and a few of the standouts.
“Live To Praise You”- This opening track is pretty fun. Like almost all the songs on the album it overflows with super pop driven melodies and can feel over the top. Once you strip away the production factor, the song could be a blast to play for your congregation. You can download the tracks for the song for free on multitracks.com throughout the month of August.
“Oxygen” – Oxygen, the title track to the album is an interesting song. When you hear it you can hear the influence of some modern pop songs that are popular within our culture.
With this song, I would think your congregation would have to be ready for something ultra high energy. I would consider bringing this song into a youth ministry or even a children’s ministry service. It will get the people up and moving for sure!
“There Is Power” – This is one of the standouts in my opinion. The song has a strong biblical lyric and is very singable from a congregational point of view. It has the energy of a song that can go from soft to big and soft again. There is a lot of room for open worship in this one, I can hear the church just shouting “there is power in the name of Jesus, there is power in His Name!”
“Whole Again (Come Alive)” – One of the softer songs, this has a great theme and can be used in several formats. It is a song that, when you hear the lyrics and sing along, becomes a very personal prayer to God. I would encourage this song in a prayer service for sure.
While the album can at times feel overly produced and polished it does stand on its own with several of the tracks. As I stated before, if you like Lincoln’s music you will love the album. I believe most of the tracks can be used within most congregations, whether they’re in a pre/post service mix, sung in your congregation, or even used with youth and children’s ministries. Don’t forget to check out the free track download of “Live To Praise You” on multitracks.com as well. All in all, great stuff from Lincoln Brewster!
