Be sure to check out our other worship reviews as well! Remember that we write these reviews from the perspective of a week to week worship leader looking to bring new songs to their church.
This I Believe (The Creed) // From an album standpoint, this song isn’t as uptempo as we’ve heard on previous releases. From a worship standpoint, this song is fantastic to open a service with. You can use this song to help your congregation sing out their faith. “I believe in the resurrection. I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord.” Really strong lyrics that can be a great help to really teach your congregation to sing theology in a fresh way.
Heaven and Earth // This one opens with some great guitar and synth and sings about the reality of heavenly father taking on flesh to come and save us. God brings us to life for the glory of His name. Powerful to think about and something that most of our congregations need to hear.
Broken Vessels (Amazing Grace) // I have a feeling this one is going to be used pretty widely in the church. The bridge takes the lyrics from Amazing Grace and gives them a modern progression and melody. I’ve found that at my church, people really catch on to these new takes on hymns. The combination of familiar lyrics with this freshness is really great.
No Other Name // The title track for this album is led out by Joel Houston as usual. The lyrics recognize the glory and wonder of our risen savior. This is a strong ballad to introduce to your church.
Depths // There are some really fun piano and guitar things going on in this track. The bridge sings “I love you with all my heart, I love you with all my soul Lord, I love you with all my strength, with all that is within me.” This is what is called the Shema which is given to us in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and reinforced by Jesus. I’m always a big fan of singing scripture.
Calvary // This is another standout on the album for me. Admittedly though, I tend to always dig Reuben Morgan’s songs. We have no right to be able to even worship God if it weren’t for the salvation provided by the blood of Christ. I think we can spend a lot of time going to church and forget this powerful fact. Help your congregation understand that they need Christ to bridge the gap between God and man.
Thank You Jesus // Piggybacking on Calvary, Thank You Jesus give praise for what he did for us. This one sings in simple stanzas and easily feels like a hymn. The bridge is really easy to catch on to and sings of everything God has done for us.
All Things New // Jesus renews our hearts and restores our lives to himself on a daily basis. Use this song to help your congregation understand this truth. We have life in Christ and need to daily take hold of it.
My Story // I love the bridge: “We lift your name up, we lift your name, you are higher, there’s no one like you Jesus.” It really builds up and, as always, declares the glory of Christ.
Our Father // This one feels like a classic hillsong song led by Darlene Zschech. Pass this one on to your female leaders.
Mountain // The whole song builds to the bridge which sings out “Holy, Holy, Holy.” Overall, there are some really solid songs on this album as usual. I do with there were a couple more upbeat ones but I suppose you can look to Young and Free for those if you need to.
