I’ve had the chance to talk with some of the guys over at centric worship and it’s been so cool to hear their heart. They’re writing music for us week to week worship leaders. Sometimes we have to do a lot of work to make a song work for our congregation but I think you’ll find that every song on this project are pretty much ready to go for almost any congregation. That said, here’s my rundown:
Love Comes Down // This is a fantastic song to add to your setlist if you’re going for an acoustic vibe. I really dig the drive of it and the line at the end of the chorus “All the praise goes up as your love comes down” will get stuck in your congregations head right out the gate. Michael Farren’s voice really adds to this song and I think you’ll find that it’s in a quite singable key for your whole congregation as it is. The outro uses the melody for “Amazing Grace” over some “whoa’s” which I think will come across really well. I know at my church, people really dig when we bring in an old hymn in some way or another.
Nothing But the Blood // We talked with Corey on a recent podcast so be sure to check that out! “Nothing But the Blood” takes the lyrics from the classic and gives them a fresh melody for the chorus while giving us some new verses to learn. Your guitarists will have a lot of fun with the riffs on this one as well. The outro simply sings “O the blood of Jesus” and leaves room for spontaneous worship. You can hear some of the crowd singing out on the recording, Corey talked about this on the podcast and we’ve got a great post about spontaneous worship here if you’re thinking about moving that way with your church.
Overwhelm Me (Lost in You) // Riley Erin leads out am intimate love song proclaiming a desire to be lost in God. The beauty of our God is that we can spend out whole lives seeking him and getting to know him and still have an eternity of wonder in Him. There’s a great truth in the song for your congregation to grab hold of. We can draw so much peace in knowing that we serve a God who wants to be known, Who wants to be close to us. I love the bridge:
All the Saints (Holy, Holy, Holy) // A fantastic take on the great hymn. The chords give it a kind of brooding feel but the melody is still the same. The bridge is fresh and really builds. I’m a big fan of doing sections of songs and working with the dynamics of the team and room.
Worthy is the Lamb // This one has a vibe like All the Saints and sings about how worthy Christ is to be worshiped. Again, the chorus for this one is really easy to catch on to. This would work as a great ballad in any service.
