One of my favorite worship bands just dropped some big news! Formerly known as Citizens, the band will now go by the new moniker Citizens & Saints. They will also release their Sophomore effort “Join The Triumph” on October 28, 2014. Frontman Zach Bolen has parted ways with Mars Hill Church as is no longer on staff as a worship pastor. While he is no longer on staff, the band members have made a “strong commitment to one another to continue making music—no matter where they live, work and attend church with their growing families.” Two band members, Brian Eichelberger (co-writer/producer/keys) and Nate Garvey (keys) are still with Mars Hill Church in their respective positions of proudcer and worship director. Zach Bolen comments on the change: “I think that just shows the unity that Jesus brings in the Church. The primary thing for us will always be to serve the local church whether or not Citizens & Saints is playing together as a band at a specific church.”
Look out for “Join The Triumph” on October 28th and for our upcoming podcast conversation with Zach and the crew of Citizens & Saints.
Until then…
Grace and Peace,
Miles

First Kings Kaleidoscope, and now Citizens is disassociating themselves with Mars Hill. I’m wondering how much of it has to do with the controversial things that have been happening there. It’s unfortunate. While I don’t agree with some of the ways Mark Driscoll has carried himself, his messages are usually strong and Biblically driven. And their worship bands have been very creative and refreshing, not adhering to any one standard sound.
I’m assuming this means that Citizens & Saints won’t be under the Mars Hill Music sublabel. Will Dustin Kensrue be the next one to go?

Chris,
I agree. Driscoll is a great teacher and the controversy is a sad thing. I am not sure how much of it has contributed to their decisions to leave. I will be talking with each band soon and there will be podcasts posted shortly after. Maybe they will be willing to speak to that? We will see. Mars Hill Music has produced some of the freshest and most biblically centered worship I’ve heard in a long time. I will be talking to Kensrue soon as well. Thanks for interacting here Chris and for being a part of the community! We really value interaction like this and connecting with others. Thanks again!

Thanks Miles. I’ll definitely be contributing to the comments more and providing feedback where appropriate. You guys are all doing some great stuff here!
