Nothing actually happened to deem this title. Street Fighter just pops into my head whenever I say “round two”.
This was my 2nd week actually leading the team and congregation into worship. Some battles that I felt arose initially was that I asked our pianist, who has been a part of the worship team for about 2 decades I believe, to choose two hymns. One hymn would ‘intro’ the worship set and the other would be for offering.
I chose these positions for a particular reason. When we do hymns within our church, currently the style of play is very traditional. The hymns are sung with piano, bass, and maybe guitar accompaniment. Like I mentioned in my previous post I’m not the tri-wizard champion of musical theory, nor have I been saved that long. So for the time being hymns in our service is like a Coldplay song in the middle of a Eazy-E show. (Yes my style of leading worship is like that of Eazy-E spitting mad rhymes.)
That being said, I intended the hymns to almost stand alone so that the flow of the other worship songs could tie in nicely together.
The set worked nicely, the songs were as follow:
‘Awesome God’ – Hillsong United version
‘His Name is Wonderful’ – hymn**
‘He is Lord’ – hymn**
‘Cornerstone’ – Hillsong Live
‘Give Me Faith’ – Elevation Worship
‘Holy, Holy, Holy’ – hymn**
‘From the Inside Out’ – Hillsong United
** = Never heard this song in my life so I asked others to lead it while I try to sing along…
Afterwards we had a send-off party for the previous worship leader. While there I was taking some notes from The Worship Doctor and began to reach out the congregation. Started asking their hearts of the worship even things that they would like to see. I received encouraging words of the day’s worship as well as last weeks.
It was really important to show them that I am apart of this community as well. I’m not a heartless outsider who is just going to crack the whip as far as worship style. I want to help the people grow and desire more of God. Plainest and simplest of ways to state my purpose.
I know as the days go by there will be new challenges and new lessons. Continue praying that I grow and the congregation does as well.
