I had the chance to ask Nic Brandt some questions about his great resource, Gearnerds. Check it out!
TCC: Tell us how Gearnerds got started.
NB: GearNerds started for a few reasons. First and foremost because I tend to nerd out about guitar gear haha. I definitely believed that there were other people out there like me that want to learn more about their craft and the tools that help create their sound. Whether it be guitars, amps, pedals, or something else that peaks your interest we want to help you understand more. One of the really cool things about GearNerds has been my developing of relationships of all sorts of great companies. Having the opportunity to work with these people and get to know them on a personal level has been amazing.
TCC: Do you serve in a worship ministry?
NB: Yes I do! I serve on sunday mornings at my church, and I serve sunday evenings for a service called overflow that my church hosts. It consists of college aged students from surrounding churches. We have a meal together, worship together and then study Gods word together. I’ve met a lot of great people through this ministry. Heres some more information if you live in Nebraska.

TCC: Tell us about your church.
NB: Currently my Wife, Son and I attend eFree Church in Kearney, Ne. We just made the move there 2-3 months ago, and it has been a big change for us. I have been a part of a few churches over the years. Some have been normal, some have been plants, and some of them have been in the basement of a free health clinic. This is largest one that we’ve been a part of. I never thought that I would actually be a part of a larger church but thats the great thing about serving. Its a great church and I love being a part of it.
Heres so more info if you’re from Nebraska and would like to check it out.
TCC: You recently had “guitar appreciation week.” Tell us about that.
NB: Well I definitely think that the trend right now is pedals and pedalboards for a lot of people, and I probably have one of the more ridiculous pedalboard setups out there haha, but what I love more than effects are guitars. The joy that I get from playing a great guitar really reminds me why I play in the first place. So I just wanted to hear stories about other peoples guitars and be able to share. We had some great ones. Players dream guitars, their workhorses, and some really cool vintage stuff.
TCC: What has been the coolest thing about running gearnerds?
NB: Honestly its been great just growing friendships in this great music community. Getting to have conversations with great artists that I look up to, and being able to help builders of all shapes and sizes promote their quality products. I’m discovering so many things about my personal writing
and recording style through these relationships and they are really helping me grow and become a better guitar player.
TCC: What’s on the horizon for gearnerds?
NB: Well we just finished our website gearnerds.net so thats been something that I’ve been looking forward to for a while. You’ll be able to check out demos, interviews with all sorts of people, product reviews and so much more. Having that growing resource for gear lovers all over the world is just a great thing. We also have a promotion coming up with our friends in Gottone on instagram. We teamed up with some of my favorite pedal builders and more to bring 9 straight days of free stuff.
TCC: How can people get in touch with you?
NB: Well the best way now is through our website. There you can find out all about us. You can submit your photos online now and we can just keep in contact better. My personal email through the site is nic@gearnerds.net
