A lot of this has been enlightened by a good friend and musician, Pete James of Hillsong United. We all sat down during a creative night at our church and he gave his insight on playing prophetically.
As a musician, especially on platform it can be very difficult if you are not at all prepared to serve fully in your heart. It will be hard to be serving if the reason behind it was not for the cause of His kingdom. For us as musicians and creative individuals, we gather our inspiration from our creator. Our head of creative posted on instagram this quote that really got me.
‘The One who hovers over creation lives inside me. I need never say to the blank page “I got nothing”’.
Application
There is also a reason for God’s revelation, but it often does not necessarily mean to apply it. For example, if I were a guitarist, believing that God says this worship needs to give hope, I wouldn’t automatically take over the worship leaders mic and let the congregation know what God was saying in me.
That was an odd example, but what is really meant by that is if God speaks prophetically, use what you have in your hands to sow prophetically.
Intimacy
To be hearing what God has for that specific song, tone of worship or even just daily purpose, we should really immerse ourselves in his Word.
We see much more clearly, and in line with what God says, when we are intimate with His word. God cannot contradict himself, so if you feel what God is telling you is out of line with what his word says, it, more often than not, is not coming from a place of prophetic intimacy.
Ps 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” KJV
Dear God,
I’m thankful for the lives you have called us to lead.
I pray that we seek you, not just in the big things, but in also the little things.Thank you Jesus, for always loving us.
Speak to us God and use us to allow your kingdom to come, just as it is in heaven.
In your mighty name we pray.
Amen.
