The cycle of doing church every week can be grueling. Just as soon as we’re done with one week we have another coming, and another week after that. In the midst of trying to pull off a service every week your team members are living their lives. Some are on the mountaintop and others are in a valley. It’s our responsibility to encourage our team in more than just their worship leadership. Here are a few thoughts:
- Make time to meet with them 1 on 1. No amount of depth can come out of a general “Hey, how’s it going” while you’re plugging in your instruments. Meet up for coffee or have them come in before a rehearsal.
- Establish accountability with them. Check in our your team members, ask them what they’re reading during their personal devotions…are they regularly having personal devotions? You won’t find out if you don’t make an effort to be a part of their lives.
- Give them a chance to let you know their desires in ministry. Your team members have tremendous potential, it’s your job as their leader to help them use that potential.
- Remember that we are all broken people. It’s the norm to put a happy face on when we come to church. There’s an assumption that because we’re all Christians we should all have our act together. Strive to be vulnerable with your team and allow them to be vulnerable with you. You’ll find that you become an even stronger team than you could ever imagine because you’re being real with each other.
Live life with your team, God’s given you the opportunity to pour into them. Don’t miss the opportunity for the sake of doing the weekend service.
