Have you ever reached the end of a worship set and just stood there in awe of what God did?
Seemingly out of nowhere, God moved in your service in a way that you’ve never seen. What was going to be “just another service” took on a life of it’s own as God ministered to the people in the room.
We had just such an experience yesterday! We talk about it here and I found myself reflecting on the morning all afternoon (for those who know me…yea, yea, I’m almost done with my research paper…thanks for asking). I’m constantly humbled by God’s use of broken vesels like myself in his divine plan and here are some thoughts on yesterdays service in Elevate:
- We’ve Been Praying: I’m not talking about just a cursory prayer before rehearsal, the team has been intentional about praying both on and off the platform. An often overlooked element to preparation, prayer is key in getting your heart lined up as well as the community heart of the worship team. We’ve been praying for God to move every week and He hasn’t disappointed. Every service has seen people connecting in deeper ways to God. I have no doubt this next weekend will be better than the last.
- We’ve Been Reading: A mentor of mine who spends most of his time with other worship leaders lamented to me once that, from what he’s seen, the average worship leader would be lucky to read their Bible for more than a couple hours a month. Just let that sink in…2 hours a month! It’s no wonder we can go through an entire service and miss a connection to God. If we’re not connecting with Him in private, you can count on lackluster depth in public. I’m so proud of the team who has been keeping each other accountable to read their Bibles throughout the week, sharing insight with each other, and pushing each other to read more.
- We’ve Been Growing: Week in, week out, I am constantly impressed by the musicianship of every member of the worship team. It’s become contagious as the guitarists bounce ideas off each other, the worship leaders share vocal tips with each other, the tech guys are honing the lights and media for the morning and a myriad of other small steps that make for a stronger team every week. If you’re not growing musically, you’re declining. I can’t reiterate that enough…you have to practice. We’re doing this for God, why would we do anything less than our best?
Remember that if you’re not challenging your congregation, your team, and yourself you’ll lose ground. Push forward and be amazed at what God does.
