Jon Ashley of Bondi Effects

Chris catches up with pedal builder Bondi Effects – one of the most exciting new pedal manufacturers.

I recently had the opportunity to chat with Jon Ashley, the main man of Bondi Effects. Jon’s “Sick As” overdrive is a staple among many in the gear community and owns a considerable stake in the K-type overdrive territory.

Bondi Effects currently has a network of around 50 dealers, so Jon’s products are easy to find and purchase. With artists like Leagues and Third Eye Blind and more, there is ample opportunity to hear the Sick As in a variety of musical styles.

Bondi Effects’ latest offering is the Del Mar Overdrive. Jon’s take on what he sees as the two most important overdrive pedals, the Tubescreamer and the Blues Breaker, the Del Mar delivers lush and dynamic gain tones in spades. The pedal can function as a clean boost, or an overdrive and is especially sensitive to manipulation of the guitar’s volume.

The Del Mar runs off a 9v BOSS style power supply, but is internally boosted to 18v for maximum headroom and clarity. The pedal also has a two-stage toggle switch. The up position provides a compressed overdrive with emphasis on mids. The down position delivers a flatter EQ, but with a high frequency focus.

Most exciting for me, are the active bass and treble controls. The ability to cut or boost both treble and bass enable this overdrive to achieve an extremely wide array of tones and styles. The controls, paired with the soft touch bypass switching, make the Del Mar an exciting and welcome offering from an already established and proven builder.

The article on Bondi was great, but who are the 50 dealers? I would very much like to procure a 2026 Compressor.
    Thank You….
