If you’ve been around The Church Collective for a while, you’ll may remember a great post called “Worship is War.” Spence has been in the process of writing a book and I’ve had the honor of reading it early and I’m also taking my worship team through it now. Here are some highlights from the book:
The Gospel Centered Worship Leader
In our never ending quest to find the perfect guitar tones, pick the perfect set, program the lights, and basically do all the things involved in worship ministry, it becomes easy to forget why we’re doing what we’re doing in the first place. Spence’s book is there to help draw your team toward God and really give them a solid theology of worship. Don’t be scared of by the word theology…we need it. Your team needs it. You need it.
The book starts by going in to deep study about what the Bible says about God, man, sin, and ultimately our need for a savior. Spence ties it all in to explain how these truths affect us as a worship leader. His second section moves from the worshiper to the worship leader followed by a third section that explains what we are to do with our calling.
I’ve found that this book has been a fantastic study for my worship team and I know that it will be a blessing to yours if you grab it. I’ve mentioned before that taking your team through some sort of Bible study is essential for the heart of your worship ministry and for your entire church. The Gospel Centered Worship Leader is a great book to start!
