The new Live EP from For All Seasons does not disappoint. It is packed full with great lyrics about who God is and what He has done for us. If you are looking for some fresh songs to teach your people, look no further. There is great stuff right here on the new FAS EP “Live Sessions Vol. 2.” Let’s look at a track by track breakdown.
Salvation’s Melody //
As the name suggests, this track is all about what God has done for us and the salvation He brings us. The chorus sings, “All of heaven shouting / songs of praise resounding / we will join and sing / salvation’s melody.” This would be a great opening song musically and lyrically. The music is very energetic and the lyrics remind us of why we worship in the first place, God has brought us salvation through Christ.
Bigger Than //
This is a fantastic song that sings about God our provider, and our protector. It speaks about God being our rock through hard times and that God doesn’t change even when our circumstances do. The chorus sings, “You are bigger than all my fears / God of love God my love / You are bigger than all my dreams / God of hope God my peace / Whatever will come my way through each day I will say / God I trust You I trust You.” It’s a very powerful song lyrically and very reproducible even by a small band or one person with an acoustic guitar.
Ever Be //
Once again, a song about the character of God and why He is worthy of our praise. The chorus is an anthem of our unending praise of our great God. This would be a very easy song to teach to your people and also a very good song lyrically. You will be not only teaching your people about the character of God but also reminding them of why we worship. This song also lends itself to being stripped down with a guitar. Maybe try a stripped down version with guitar, piano, and cajon. Sometimes congregations will have an easier time learning a song when there is less going on musically. Do what best suits the musical style of your church and go from there. At any rate, Ever Be is a great song and I highly recommend singing it.
High Above It All //
This song has been around a while and was released on the first FAS full length album with the same title released 3 years ago. FAS puts a fresh spin on the track with some different guitar work and a little more power musically. This has been a favorite at our youth group for years and I can’t recommend this song enough. Staying true to their song writing, this song speaks of the wonders of God’s power and what He has done for us.
Great Are You Lord //
A cover of the well loved All Sons & Daughters song released in 2013, FAS does a very cool version beginning with stripped down acoustic guitar and slowly building into a powerful rock anthem. If you’ve been doing this song but have been looking for a fresh way to play it, take some cues from this track and run with it. This is a simple, yet beautiful song to teach your people.
Promises //
Another great original song from FAS. It sings about the promises of God, our salvation through Christ, the security of our salvation in God, and that God’s Word will last forever! The chorus sings, “Your Word will stand / When all the world gives way / Your Word will stand / My rock my hope and stay.” This is a GREAT song! Being acoustic based this song is easily reproducible by a solid player. The vocals may take some work but fit it to suit your skill level and don’t be afraid to mess with the song.
Alive (Live At Camp Pondo) //
A fun listen as the band leads the popular Hillsong Young & Free song at a youth camp in Southern California. If you’ve been thinking about doing this one, take some cues from how FAS does the song.
Yet again, For All Seasons has made a fantastic worship album. Do yourself and your people a favor and introduce at least one of these songs soon. You will not only be teaching them truth about God but also reminding them about the reason for singing.
