I Missed Christmas!

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”  Galatians 6:9

I don’t know about you, but It’s been a staggeringly busy season for me.  I have the best intentions every year as we move into the holiday season but, no matter what, I get sucked into the work that needs to be done.

There are Christmas concerts and programs to pull off.  Staff parties and pageants for the kids.  Shopping to get done….My kids had me pull out our Christmas lights the week before Thanksgiving!

As I’m talking with friends in ministry, I found that there is a common theme: all we want for Christmas is for Christmas to be over.

We’re ready for some time off.

While our kids are getting out of school and anticipating the big day, we’re ready for it to be over and done with so that things can get back to normal.

I want to take a moment to thank you, worship leader, for taking the time to read this just a few days before Christmas.  I know that you’re doing a lot, and you may feel like it’s going unnoticed.  But I also know that God chose you to do what you’re doing this year, and that He’s got your back.  Here are some tips to help keep your sanity during this last push:

Don’t Forget God

Cliché, I know, but it’s amazing how the busyness of ministry can sometimes push God right out of the equation.  Take a moment every morning to open your Bible, and don’t let your personal time with God go away because you’re too busy doing ministry.  God’s more concerned about you than he is about what you do for Him.

Don’t Forget Your Family

Make time to experience the season with your family.  They know you’re in ministry and they know that you’re busy, but find ways to experience Christmas with them.  Bring home a handful of candy canes ones night, pack the kids in the car and go looking for Christmas decorations.  I know you’re tired after seemingly endless rehearsals, but these simple acts will help your family stay connected and create memories that will be far more important than your church’s program for years to come.

Don’t Forget Why You’re Doing This

God has called you into ministry for a reason.  You’re part of his plan and He’s using you to help people come to know Him.  Christmas is a fantastic time for your church to reach people that don’t normally come.  All you need to do is be faithful with what you have, and give it your best.  God will take care of the rest.  You’re changing eternity for people this season through even the most mundane details.  Don’t forget why you’re doing what you’re doing.
